HALIFAX — The Nova Scotia government has introduced new legislation aimed at simplifying regulations and modernizing several provincial laws.

The proposed Service Efficiency Act would make administrative changes to more than a dozen existing acts, including updates intended to eliminate duplication, modernize outdated provisions and clarify government responsibilities.

One of the more visible changes would rename the Department of Growth and Development as the Department of Growth, Development and Defence Industries, reflecting the province’s push to expand Nova Scotia’s role in the defence sector.

The province says regulatory changes made between 2021 and 2025 have reduced costs to businesses by more than $21 million.
