Canadian Army Announces Major Structural Overhaul

The Canadian Army is reorganizing its command structure as part of an effort to improve combat readiness and crisis response.
The army is moving away from four geographically based divisions and replacing them with three formations organized around specific operational roles.
Military officials said the previous regional structure served Canada through its peacekeeping missions, the Afghanistan war and the early stages of its expanded NATO deployment in Latvia.
The army says the changing international security environment now requires units that can deploy more quickly and operate with a clearer division of responsibilities.
Officials described the restructuring as one of the largest organizational changes in the army’s history.
The transition will affect command responsibilities rather than immediately changing where every unit and service member is based.
