Nova Scotia Approves 158-Turbine Wind Project

June 18th, 2025 - windmills and powerlines in the Nova Scotian countryside.

The Ocean Lake Wind Project in Guysborough County has received environmental assessment approval from the Province of Nova Scotia.

The proposed development could include as many as 158 turbines and generate approximately 1,264 megawatts of electricity. Provincial estimates say that is equivalent to the electricity used by about 404,000 homes.

Construction is expected to begin in 2029 and take approximately five years. The project could create between 400 and 500 construction jobs, followed by 40 to 50 operational positions.

EverWind NS Holdings Ltd. and Membertou Development Corporation are developing the project. Its environmental approval contains 61 conditions intended to protect human health and the environment.
