Nova Scotia Premier Heads to Alberta Energy Conference

Premier Tim Houston is heading to Alberta this week to make Nova Scotia’s case in national discussions about Canada’s energy future.

Houston is scheduled to speak Thursday, August 20, at the Canadian Energy Executive Association’s annual conference in Banff. The three-day gathering brings together leaders from across the energy sector.

Nova Scotia resources in focus

The Premier plans to highlight the province’s offshore wind resources and its potential reserves of natural gas and oil. The provincial government says it is pursuing development across several energy sources, including offshore and onshore wind, tidal power, solar, geothermal, bioenergy and natural gas.

Nova Scotia estimates its offshore areas could hold 148 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and 49 billion barrels of oil. The province also has some of North America’s strongest offshore wind conditions, with average annual wind speeds above nine metres per second in some areas.

Houston will be in Banff from August 18 to 21. His appearance comes as governments and industry leaders debate how new energy projects could affect investment, energy security and local employment.
