Nova Scotia’s Child Death Review Committee has released its second annual report along with recommendations from an individual child death review.

The committee examines the circumstances surrounding deaths of children and young people and recommends changes that could help prevent similar deaths.

Report covers deaths recorded from 2009 to 2025

The 2025-26 annual report includes information about Nova Scotia residents under age 25 who died between 2009 and 2025. The province said all identifying and personal information has been removed from the public documents.

Recommendations from death review committees must be made public under Nova Scotia’s Fatality Investigations Act. The process is intended to identify patterns, gaps in services or other factors that public agencies and community organizations can address.

The Child Death Review Committee is one of three formal death review bodies in the province. Nova Scotia also has a Deaths in Custody Review Committee and a Domestic Violence Death Review Committee.

The annual report and the individual review recommendations are available through the provincial Child Death Review Committee website. The documents deal with sensitive subject matter and may be difficult for some readers.
