A 37-year-old man now faces eight charges following an alleged racist confrontation at a Halifax store.

A man accused in connection with a confrontation at the Costco on Chain Lake Drive is facing eight criminal charges. The Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service says the charges include inciting hatred against an identifiable group, two counts of uttering threats, two counts of assault, mischief, harassment and intimidation.

Halifax Regional Police responded to the store in July after receiving reports that a man was directing racial slurs and threats toward a family. Portions of the confrontation were recorded and circulated online.

The accused also faces separate charges associated with his arrest. The allegations have not been proven in court. The accused is presumed innocent unless found guilty.
