Repairs are continuing at Dares Lake after a breach disrupted Lunenburg’s primary water supply.

Residents and businesses in Lunenburg are being asked to conserve water while repairs continue at the Dares Lake dam. The dam, which serves the town’s principal water supply, was breached after a crack formed and water entered the pumping facility.

Two of the facility’s three pumps had returned to service, although they were not yet operating at full capacity. Officials said the breach had been secured and crews were working to restore normal pumping operations.

The incident also caused flooding on nearby property. Its cause remained under investigation. Residents should follow notices from the Town of Lunenburg and the regional emergency management organization until normal water use can resume.
