Nova Scotia Energy Minister Resigns Over Past Lyrics

Marco MacLeod has stepped down from cabinet following controversy over offensive lyrics he wrote before entering politics.

Marco MacLeod has resigned as Nova Scotia’s energy minister after facing criticism over rap lyrics written more than a decade ago. The lyrics, originally published in 2013, included misogynistic language and references to cocaine use. The song has since been removed from music platforms.

Premier Tim Houston said he did not request the resignation. According to Houston, MacLeod believed the controversy had become a distraction from the government’s work.

MacLeod apologized and met with women’s advocacy organizations after the lyrics became public. Opposition parties have criticized the premier’s handling of the controversy. Houston did not rule out a possible future return to cabinet for MacLeod.
