Leaf Space has opened its first Canadian satellite ground station at Spaceport Nova Scotia.
A new satellite communications facility is now operating at Spaceport Nova Scotia near Canso. The ground station was developed by Italian company Leaf Space in partnership with Maritime Launch Services.
The facility includes an antenna, protective radome and supporting communications equipment. It will allow commercial satellite operators to transmit information between spacecraft and teams on the ground, supporting radio frequencies commonly used for satellite communications and high-speed data downloads.
The station has received regulatory clearance and is open to commercial customers. Supporters say the project is another step toward establishing a commercial space industry in eastern Nova Scotia.
