An 18-year-old man and a youth from New Brunswick face charges after police stopped a stolen vehicle in Porters Lake.

RCMP said officers responded at about 6:45 p.m. on September 4 after receiving reports of a Mazda sedan travelling erratically on Highway 7 near Oyster Pond.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle in Musquodoboit Harbour, but it continued west at high speed. Callers reported that it entered oncoming lanes and made a U-turn on Highway 107.

Officers used a tire-deflation device before the vehicle stopped at a property on West Porters Lake Road. The driver fled on foot and was arrested nearby. Police found and arrested the passenger later that evening after receiving a report of a suspicious person.

Investigators determined that the Mazda had been stolen in Moncton and was carrying stolen licence plates.

The adult driver faces charges including dangerous driving, flight from police, obstruction and possession of property obtained by crime. The youth also faces property, resisting-arrest and release-condition charges.

The allegations have not been proven in court.
