Zelenskyy Arrives in Canada for Meetings With Prime Minister Carney

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Calgary Wednesday night ahead of meetings with Prime Minister Mark Carney.

The leaders were scheduled to meet Thursday morning before Zelenskyy addressed a federal cabinet meeting in Banff.

Carney said the visit would focus on defense, economic and energy co-operation, as well as Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction.

Zelenskyy and his wife, Olena Zelenska, are also expected to visit Toronto and North Bay before leaving Canada Friday.

Ukraine continues to seek additional air-defense support following months of Russian missile and drone attacks. Canada has pledged $6.5 billion in military assistance for Ukraine through 2029.

The visit comes as diplomatic discussions about ending the war continue. No confirmed peace agreement has been announced, and Ukrainian and European officials maintain that any settlement must prevent Russia from rebuilding its forces and attacking again.
