Annapolis Valley Communities Receive Climate-Resilience Funding

Three Annapolis Valley organizations are receiving provincial support for projects designed to help their communities prepare for severe weather and the effects of climate change.

The Town of Kentville received $235,200 to design stormwater upgrades for the Crescent Avenue flood zone. The Margaretsville Shore Society received $96,310 for coastal protection work, including improvements to the community breakwater and the creation of a living shoreline.

The Canning and District Lions Club received $132,231 for a solar power system with battery backup. The system will help keep the Canning Area Food Bank operating during outages while reducing its energy costs.

The money comes from Nova Scotia’s Sustainable Communities Challenge Fund. Since its launch, the fund has committed about $15 million to projects across the province.
