Renewable Electricity to Power Nova Scotia Public Housing

Nova Scotia’s public housing system is expected to begin receiving renewable electricity from a Queens County wind farm in 2027.

The Nova Scotia Provincial Housing Agency has entered a 10-year agreement with Renewall Energy Inc. Electricity will come from the company’s 33-turbine Mersey River Wind Project.

The province estimates that the agreement will reduce greenhouse-gas emissions by more than 37,000 tonnes annually. It is also projected to avoid between $25 million and $50 million in electricity costs over the extended life of the agreement.

The contract includes a fixed annual price increase of one per cent and options for two five-year extensions.
