Nova Scotia Offers Tariff Support for Workers and Businesses

Nova Scotia workers affected by tariffs and shifting global markets can access new training and income supports through provincial programs.

The federally funded Workforce Tariff Response Fund will provide $13.8 million over three years. The province expects the program to support as many as 1,572 workers.

Help is available to unemployed workers training for in-demand jobs, employees whose hours have been reduced through work-sharing agreements and people who need new skills to remain employed.

Industries facing pressure include steel, softwood lumber, fisheries, seafood and agri-food. Businesses may use the programs to retain employees, retrain their workforce or help people move into new positions.

The province says support will be delivered through a provincewide network, including services for rural and single-industry communities.
